FutureCraft: Re-imagining Creativity with AI aims to explore the role of disruptive technologies in empowering human creativity rather than replacing it.

This two-day symposium, part of the Signals Creative Tech Expo from October 2-3, explores the intersection of AI and creativity. It highlights how AI enhances artistic expression in films, video games, and research.

Key Presentations Include:

  • Microsoft on the Art of the Possible
  • DNEG’s use of Ziva AI for character animation
  • Electronic Arts’ looking at how AI is a signal of change
  • SFU’s MetaCreation Lab showcasing ethical AI tools 

Key Speakers and Contributors Include:

  • MOTS (Daniela Nedovescu and Octavian Mot): Creators of the installation AI & Me, exploring how AI perceives and judges human participants.
  • Manuel Sainsily and Will Selviz: These creators are associated with the immersive project Protopica, which intertwines AI and cultural storytelling.
  • Amelia Winger-Bearskin: An Indigenous filmmaker who uses AI in storytelling to explore environmental futures.
  • Jiabao Li and Matt McCorkle: They lead the interactive AI project Nocturnal Fugue, focused on translating bat vocalizations into evocative music using AI.

Day 2

Oct 3: AI & Creative Technology

Day two of FutureCraft brings together experts from video games, animation, visual effects, live theatre, and XR to examine how AI is transforming creative industries. From generative AI world-building and tools for indie creators to the latest innovations in VFX and live performance, the symposium will provide insights into how AI is reshaping artistic processes and access. 

This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the future of creativity and collaboration, highlighting how emerging technologies are driving new possibilities in artistic expression and production.

In collaboration with Pacific Future, day one of FutureCraft is dedicated to exploring AI’s role in the future of filmmaking through the lens of technological innovation, artistic expression, and industry collaboration. This full day program will explore cinema and creative practice in the age of AI. Featuring impactful AI-driven films, panels with established and emerging leaders, the symposium aims to engage communities in timely dialogue about the future of film and streaming content.
