Using 270° panoramic projections and mixed-reality devices, visitors are not just spectators—they step into the parade, drumsticks in hand, and march down Fifth Avenue as cheering crowds surround them.
At its core, the project is an invitation: to experience Pride as a safe, living, communal event; to amplify voices often underrepresented in mainstream narratives; and to witness how cultural minorities can show up at Pride as their most authentic selves. Designed especially for those who have never attended a Pride march—Beats of Pride blends cultural heritage and queer visibility, celebrating how Asian traditions and LGBTQ+ identity can come together in powerful, joyful, celebratory expression.
The experience begins in a storytelling zone, where participants learn about the history of NYC Pride, the art of Poongmul (traditional Korean drumming), and the community efforts of Poongmul Movement Builders that made this performance possible. They then enter the main immersive space, drumming alongside the team as rhythms build and visuals and effects echo the energy of the parade itself.
