This AI creature creates a collective emotional experience among the players, and builds a companionship between AI and human through organic interactivity.
TamagotchU reimagines AI as a decentralized system. The project proposes using low-end devices as nodes for collaborative creation, challenging centralized monopolies, and aiming to reduce carbon footprints through low-energy workflows and community input. The project suggests an alternative model for AI, promoting open source and low-impact solutions, and connects to growing movements for low tech (or lo-tech), frugal computing, and data sovereignty that resist monopolistic control of AI development. The artist also draws inspiration from the cuteness and environmental sensitivity of Yangtze river pufferfish, providing a metaphorical yet also very grounded link between human emotion and species-specific impacts.
Emotion generative multimodal models are distillated and customized to run on edge devices locally; It challenges the current “high-tech” GPU farming AI industry and art circle: Does 8k + GPU matrix = quality art?. By giving AI accessibility to the community, a wider range profiles of experiencers, it opens up a brand new future for AI in creativity and humanity. AI does not have to be on the opposite side of human, it could be one of us, and we can be one of them.
Artist Biography
Eyez明瞳 Li was born in Haikou, a tropical island in China, and grew up moving across diverse cultural landscapes, from Ürümqi in Uyghur Autonomous Region to Shanghai, LA, Tokyo, and now Montreal.
They build immersive non-linear experiences in the intersection of XR film, interactive art and indie games. Their work create cybernetic future inspired by Asian social landscape, and put focal points on mixed identity when the slices between machine & human intelligence, reality & virtual is smudging.
Their artworks are in several collections like Beijing Times Art Museum and Hongkong Art Heritage Center, and took part of exhibitions internationally.
