The building sits between Emily Carr University and the Centre for Digital Media.

The Signals Studio is where the Signals Creative Tech Expo takes place, as well as other industry and community events and programs such as Full Indie, Indiefest, Signals XR Lab, and more (see below).

We would also like to recognize that we are located on the unceded and ancestral territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, which has been stewarded by them since time immemorial.

How Can I Get There By Public Transit?

The Signals Studio is:

  • a 20-minute walk from the Main Street-Science World SkyTrain station
  • a 15-minute walk from the VCC-Clark SkyTrain station
  • close to the #84 VCC/UBC, #03 Main, #08 Fraser, #19 Kingsway, and the #22 Knight St. bus routes.

Are There Bike Stalls / Storage?

There are bike racks for exterior parking at the south side just opposite the Centre for Digital Media’s (685 building) main reception entrance.

Is There Parking On Site?
  • There are a dozen paid hourly/daily stalls available in front of Kafka’s Coffee.
  • Paid hourly / daily / monthly underground parking is available at 565 Great Northern Way in the South Flatz Lot #119.
  • There is limited paid street parking on Great Northern Way, between Carolina and Thornton Streets.

Beware that the parking lot behind the Centre for Digital Media is not available for public use, and non-registered vehicles will be towed.

Community Building and Support

The Signals Studio is where we host and/or plan various community support and building events focused on the development of the digital media sector in Vancouver, which you can learn more about below.

Other industry and community events in which DigiBC participates, supports, and/or promotes includes: the Canadian Esports & Gaming Industry Summit, Creative Industries Week, Vancouver Startup Week, SIGGRAPH, Flats Fest, and the Vancouver International Film Festival.

The Signals XR Lab is a program designed to elevate the creative and professional capabilities of early and mid-career Canadian and Indigenous XR producers, to foster growth of the XR sector by offering showcasing, mentorship, and networking opportunities to producers with bold and ground-breaking projects to be showcased at the annual Signals Creative Tech Expo.

Full Indie is a monthly free community event hosted at the Signals Studio where game studios, start-ups, individuals, and enthusiasts gather to network, learn, and play each other’s games.

DigiBC Elevate (aka Road to Web Summit): An event featuring presentations from industry professionals, mentoring, and pitch prep to prepare DigiBC members for Web Summit, an event which connects BC startup companies with international innovators, investors, industry leaders.

The Work Placement Pilot Project (WPP) supports post-secondary students by providing experiential learning opportunities in animation, video, games, visual effects, and XR by providing students with access to well-managed work placements and offering employers tools to make hiring and onboarding students easier and more accessible.

Creative Technology Micro-credential Programs: DigiBC has partnered with post-secondary institutions, including Vancouver Community College, the Centre for Digital Media, BCIT, and Emily Carr University of Art and Design, to develop creative tech-focused micro-credential programs. These programs are designed to equip learners with job-ready skills in a flexible delivery format, making them accessible for new graduates and people who are reskilling or upskilling for a new role in creative tech.

Digicamps provide students aged 8-13 with an interactive and hands-on experience building creative tech applications, from video games to virtual reality. Held in person or virtually, the camps provide the opportunity for kids to connect and collaborate in a supportive and fun environment with the support of industry professionals.

Play to Learn is an interactive program designed to introduce middle school students to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) related career paths. For six years, with the support of Electronic Arts and the Province of British Columbia, we’ve helped bring Play to Learn to more than 10,000 students throughout the province.

Collaborations with Science World on their Creative Technology Gallery to feature interactive exhibits featuring digital media made in BC.
